Bulldozing of Narragansett site stopped

JUNE 27, 2001 The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is apologizing to the Narragansett Tribe because a contractor was attempting to bulldoze a culturally sensitive site without approval. The DOT had ordered Cardi Construction Corp. to stop work on a sewer project. But a tribal member last week noticed a crew was disturbing the site. The tribe wants to ensure an archaeological study is conducted before any work resumes. The tribe is filing a complaint with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. Get the Story:
