Former economic developer for the Coquille Tribe, Bruce Anderson, is under trial for failing to notify environmental authorities about abestos materials in a building the tribe converted to The Mill Casino in 1995.

Anderson faces charges of failing to notify authorities about wallboard that contained as much as 60 percent asbestos, improperly removing the material, illegally disposing of the material, and lying to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Anderson's lawyers said he was told by environmental experts and government officials that the material had been removed.

Anderson was fired by the tribe in 1996. A federal investigation of misuse of Department of Housing and Urban Development funds is currently underway.
