The National Marine Fisheries Service has finalized new rules which require humans to stay at least 100 yards away from humpback whales.

The original rules suggested a 200-yard limit but were changed after receiving comment from environmentalists and the whale-watching industry. The rules will go into effect July 2 and will carry yet to be determined fines.
