EPA to implement clean air rules for parks

MAY 30, 2001 The Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday said it will keep a Clinton-era rule requiring aging power plants and industrial facilities located near national parks to reduce their emissions. The rules affect plants built between 1962 and 1977. The EPA says they emit more than 250 tons of pollution, decreasing visibility at parks throughout the country. The EPA is required by the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 to improve the air quality at 156 national parks and wilderness areas. Get the Story:
