Snowmobile ban may change under Norton

MAY 22, 2001 A group of snowmobile manufacturers on Monday proposed modifying a rule that bans the use of such vehicles in most national parks. Although the Bush administration has allowed the rules to become effective, a Department of Interior spokesperon said Secretary Gale Norton will allow limited snowmobile use if the parks can be protected. While acknowledging the vehicles are noisy, Norton has previously debated if the vehicles can be permitted under some conditions. Get the Story:
