The US Forest Service has modified how much federal land will be set aside for recovery of the endangered black-footed ferret next year because three Wyoming counties complained the acreage would hamper drilling efforts.

Officials now say the revised acreage will accomodate for coal mining and possibly oil and gas drilling. The area affected is in the Thunder Basin National Grassland.

The black-footed ferret is the most endangered mammal in North America.
