Norton ignores Brother Bush

APRIL 19, 2001 In a March 9 letter to the President, Secretary of Interior Gale Norton said a proposed oil and gas lease auction off the eastern Gulf of Mexico will proceed despite objections from Florida Governor Jeb Bush, George W. Bush's brother. Jeb had written George to ask him to halt the auction. Florida has a moratorium off its shore on oil and gas leases, but the ones being offered by Norton are in a different area of the Gulf. Jeb on Wednesday wrote his brother yet again protesting the action. Norton said there might be some leeway as to which areas are leased. Get the Story:
