MARCH 21, 2001 Despite a concerted effort to prevent one of the world's largest oil platforms from sinking, an oil rig owned by the Brazilian government sank into the South Atlantic ocean on Tuesday. As many as 400,000 gallons of fuel and crude oil were on the rig, which has begun leaking. The spill occurred about 75 miles off the Brazilian coastline. Get the Story:
