Group ready for Norton 'troublemaking'

FEBRUARY 6, 2001 Monday's announcement that a controversial roadless forest initiative would be delayed for 60 days raises concerns about "upcoming environmental troublemaking" by Secretary of Interior Gale Norton, says the Wilderness Society. The society says Representative James V. Hansen (R-Utah) will be Norton's partner in unraveling environmental legacies of President Bill Clinton. Hansen last month wrote a letter to President George W. Bush, asking him to rescind several decisions made during the Clinton administration, including the roadless forest plan. The forest plan, however, is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Agriculture and Secretary Ann Veneman. Norton pointed this out in a CNN interview on Saturday. Get the Story:
