Army Corps attacked on salmon

FEBRUARY 19, 2001 The US District Court for the District of Oregon on Friday ruled that the Army Corps of Engineers' operation of four dams on the Snake River violates the Clean Water Act. The court ordered the Corps to lower the water temperature behind the dams to protect endangered and threatened species of salmon. The Corps has to comply within 60 days. The four dams have been targeted for removal by environmentalists and tribal leaders. But the Clinton administration last year put off dam breaching for at least 3 to 5 more years. Get the Story:
