Tribe sues over forest plan

JANUARY 8, 2000 Along with two Idaho counties, snowmobile associations, and an Idaho company, the Kootenai Tribe on Monday filed a lawsuit against the US Forest Service and the US Department of Agriculture over its new roadless forest rules. The group feels the rules, which limit road construction and logging on almost 60 million acres of federal forest land, violate federal law. They tried to sue before but were turned down because the rules had not yet been finalized. The state of Idaho plans on filing lawsuit against the rules today. Get the Story:
