Pueblo harvests fire-damaged trees

JANUARY 5, 2000 The New Mexico Pueblo of Santa Clara is harvesting trees destroyed on their land by last summer's Cerro Grande fire. The Pueblo wants to clear away much of the burned timber in order to sell it. The Santa Fe National Forest considered doing the same but decided against it because they didn't have enough resources to prepare an environmental assessment, required before such a sale. The Pueblo plans on cutting up to two-thirds of the 7,400 acres of land burned by the fire. Get the Story:
