Clinton to close forest lands to logging

JANUARY 5, 2000 President Bill Clinton today will issue a decision closing of 60 million acres of federal forest lands in 38 states to most logging and road construction. Some Republicans and industry groups, however, are already protesting the move and are planning on asking President-elect George W. Bush to overturn the plan, as well as other Clinton decisions affecting the environment. Get the Story:
