Crow Tribe back on water rights

JANUARY 25, 2001 The Crow Tribe and the state of Montana on Wednesday said they were once again negotiating a compact addresing water rights on the tribe's reservation. Like the President Bush administration, the newly elected leaders of the tribe last summer rescinded or reconsidered many decisions made by controversial former leader Clara Nomee. One was a water rights compact which tribal leaders criticized. Nomee and the state had negotiated a compact which the state legislature approved in June 1999. New tribal officials say many in the tribe weren't made aware of all the issues affecting the compact so they are looking on it again. Get the Story:
