Delay on salmon decision sought

NOVEMBER 3, 2000 Governor Angus King of Maine on Thursday asked the Department of Interior and the Departmen tof Commerce to postpone an upcoming decision on whether or not to list Atlantic salmon in Maine rivers as endangered. King wants the November 17 decision delayed until the National Academy of Sciences can complete its own study of the issue. The Academy has been funded with $500,000 secured by the Maine Congressional delegation. The National Marine Fisheries Service and the US Fish and Wildlife Service support listing the salmon as endangered. Get the Story:
