Tribe's hunt goes online

NOVEMBER 24, 2000

Hunters anxious for a new hunting experience can get it on the Blackfeet Reservation in Wyoming, thanks to an Internet company offering tribal permits on its web site.

But the adventure is pricey. A bull elk permit runs $13,500 while a buffalo one runs $6,500. Members of the company, called XOutdoors, have purchased some and killed a buffalo and two antelope already. The company is holding a separate auction on a big horn sheep hunt.

The hunting grounds were previously open only to tribal members. The tribe sold 20 permits to the company, who approached them with the idea last year.

A similar effort was attempted in April by a man who bought 12 permits from Isleta Pueblo in New Mexico. He was auctioning a 5-day package for $8,000 on EBay.
