The city of Albuquerque could be closer to a lawsuit over a road running through petroglyphs considered sacred to a number of tribes in New Mexico now that Martin Chávez has been elected the city's mayor.

Sandia Pueblo has threatened a lawsuit should plans for a road through Petroglyph National Monument move forward. Chávez, who led the city during the 1990s, supports the road.

Defeated incumbent Jim Baca opposed the road, saying the city's natural resources will be harmed.
