THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2001 A grizzly bear mauled an elk hunter in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming on Tuesday. Conrad James Smith of Minnesota was described as being in stable condition. Apparently, he was hunting when the adult bear charged him and was attacked before he could take out his pepper spray. In related grizzly news, a researcher whose work with bears in Yellowstone National Park is regarded as pioneering has died. Frank Craighead was 85. Get the Story:
