Mohegan Tribe starts fishery

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2001

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut has finally started its long-proposed fisheries plan, seeding local waters with 30 million baby clams.

The effort is part of a larger, more controversial plan. Local boaters have opposed the tribe's federal permits to place lobster traps and other fishing equipment in local waters.

The tribe will sell the clams it harvests at its casino and to restaurants in the Northeast.
