Drought leads to piñon shortage

One of New Mexico's favorite native crops, the piñon, has been affected by the summer drought and officials throughout the state report little or no new crops this year.

The nut is eaten alone, after being roasted, and is also used in cooking and in candy. It is collected from the piñon tree.
