N.M. expects water lawsuit with Texas

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2001 New Mexico Attorney General Patricia Madrid is asking for $12 million in emergency funds to prepare for an expected lawsuit over water with Texas. Texas is slated to file suit, saying New Mexico is taking too much of water from the Rio Grande. A multi-state compact signed in the 1930s requires New Mexico to release a certain amount of water to Texas from the lower part of the river. Get the Story:
