SEPTEMBER 27, 2000

Five tribes in the Northwest are asking a group of eight scientists to drop their lawsuit against the Department of Interior and not pursue study of Kennewick Man.

On Monday, the Interior ruled that the 9,000-year-old remains belong to five tribes in Washington in Oregon. However, scientists are suing for the right to study Kennewick Man and that lawsuit is still pending.

A lawyer for the scientists said dropping the lawsuit isn't an option.
