Scientists in Italy have thawed out the remains of a 5,300-year-old man and removed bones, tissue, and a tooth from him in an attempt to find out what life was like in pre-historic times.

DNA tests will be conducted to determine a possible relationship to any current day inhabitants but also to determine the man's health.

He was found in 1991 on the Italian-Austrian border and Austria originally claimed the remains. Italy eventually took control, however, because the site was actually on Italian soil, annexed after World War I.
