Mohegan mask loaned to tribe

AUGUST 31, 2000 The University of Pennsylvania is loaning the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut a cermonial mask it has had in its collection since the 1930s. The mask, carved by late Chief Harold Tantaquidgeon, was discovered by the tribe while visiting the University in 1995. The museum said it bought it from the tribe in the 1930s. The University agreed to loan the mask to the tribe for an indefinite period of time. It may be repatriated sometime in the future. Get the Story:
