AUGUST 23, 2000

The Connecticut Department of Education has produced a teacher's guide to Native American history in cooperation with members of tribes in the state.

The guide includes information and history on Eastern Woodland tribes in the New England area. Food, wampum, and culture are discussed in the 66-page guide.

The state produced a similar guide to the famine in Ireland last year. A guide on African-American and Puerto Rican history will also be produced.
