The Passamaquoddy Tribe and the state of Maine are working on an agreement to transfer more control of archaeological and cultural resources to the tribe.

The tribe will have sole control over archaeological sites under the final agreement. The tribe will open its own historic preservation office at the Indian Township Reservation, a first for tribes in Maine.
