Kennewick Man battle back in court

JUNE 19, 2001 A federal judge in Oregon today will hear opening arguments in a trial seeking to control the fate of Kennewick Man, a 9,000-year-old Native man discovered in Washington in 1996. A group of scientists want to study the remains. They are challenging former Secretary of Interior Bruce Babbitt's decision to repatriate the remains to five tribes in the Pacific Northwest. The tribes are the Umatilla, Colville, Yakama, Nez Perce and Wanapum. The Wanapum are not federally recognized. Get the Story:
