A new program announced by Wayne State College and the Winnebago School District will help improve the way Indian students are taught on the Winnebago Reservation in northeastern Nebraska.

Teachers at Winnebago Public Schools and students at Wayne State will learn teaching methods that have been proven to work well with Indian students, with an emphasis on cooperative instruction.

Hap Gilliland, author of "Teaching the Native American" says cooperation, not competition, helps Indian students succeed.
