Research published in today's issue of Science suggests farmers in Mexico were growing a corn ancestor more than 6,000 years ago.

Researchers from Texas A&M discovered the pollen of the plant off the Gulf of Mexico near San Andres. They also discovered evidence of sunflower farming at least 4,000 years ago.
