Native American students at the Spokane Community College will be honored by the Washington Education Association for their work on environmental issues. As president of the Native American Student Organization, Chester Smith, a Yakama man in his 50s, spearheaded an effort to stop nuclear dumping on the Spokane Reservation.

The group will receive their award for Human Rights and Relations today in Seattle.
