Indian mascot to be renamed

APRIL 5, 2001 The Unified School District 415 school board next Monday is set to choose a new mascot for the high school teams at Hiawatha High School in Hiawatha, Kansas. But two former board members who voted to rename the mascots were defeated in an election on Tuesday. The new members have said they want to re-examine the issue, indicating the board may not rename the mascot after all. The previous board had voted 4-3 last December to rename the mascot.
