Ensuring tribes are involved in the upcoming bicentennial celebration of the Lewis and Clark expedition is one of the top priorities of the groups overseeing the commemoration.

This week, the National Council of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial is holding a meeting in Omaha, Nebraska, to discuss the celebration. Ten signature sites, where major events will take place, have been announced by planners.

Included is the Fort Berthold Reservation in North Dakota. Home to the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation, events on the reservation include a national gathering of tribes and a celebration of Sacagawea. The events will occur in 2006.
