S.D. schools to discuss mascots

MARCH 28, 2001 A number of South Dakota schools with Indian mascots plan on meeting on April 5 to discuss the issue. Watertown Superintendent Rick Melmer and Castlewood Superintendent John Bjorkman said they will probably attend the meeting, which is being organized by Berry Ann Gross, the director of the Minority Resource Center in Watertown. She helped get the State Legislature pass a law to renaame offensive places names. Get the Story:
