MARCH 23, 2001 The state of Nebraska inducted Oglala Chief Red Cloud into its Hall of Fame on Thursday, unveiling a bronze bust of the Lakota leader who won a war against the United States from 1866 to 1868 and negotiated the Fort Laramie Treaty. Red Cloud's descendants and tribes in Nebraska and South Dakota celebrated his induction yesterday, where he joins Ponca Chief Standing Bear and Omaha tribal rights advocate Susette LaFlesche Tibbles as the only Indians in the Hall of Fame.
