The leaders of the Indian programs at the University of North Dakota on Thursday presented President Charles Kupchella with a statement calling for him to get rid of the school's "Fighting Sioux" nickname.

The statement noted that Indian students at the school have been subject to discrimination because of the name. The statement also said the use of the name is stereotypical and that tribal governments oppose its use.

Kupchella will issue a decision on the name next semester.
