Tribal college president removed

DECEMBER 1, 2000

In what may have been an illegal meeting, some members of the Crow Tribal College in Montana board of directors on Thursday removed Janine Pease Pretty on Top from her duties as college president and replaced her with Henry Real Bird.

Pretty on Top protested the move and the manner in which it was held. Although Crow Tribe Chairman Clifford Bird in Ground ordered two board members who are opposed to Pretty on Top removed, they refused to step down.

Students in response barricaded themselves inside the school after the meeting and plan to stay there in order to prevent Real Bird from taking over.
