NOVEMBER 8, 2000 A proposition to end bilingual education in Arizona has been easily approved by voters. The plan calls for the replacement of the current bilingual education program in public schools with a one-year immersion program. It is primarily directed at Spanish-speaking students. But American Indian leaders and educators are worried of its effects on tribal language programs. Proponents of the measure said it won't affect it, however. Get the Story:
