NOVEMBER 3, 2000 Respect for human remains was one of the issues repeated many times at panel discussion at the University of Idaho on Thursday night. The discussion brought together members of the Indian community together with scientists to discuss what one author has termed "skull wars." One man, a member of the Wanapum Tribe, recalled how non-Indians used to dig up remains along the banks of the Columbia River just to steal sacred artifacts. Others said they have difficulty understanding why scientists would rather study than rebury remains that once belonged to someone's family. Get the Story:
