Instead of getting rid of its controversial "Fighting Sioux" nickname, the University of North Dakota might ask tribes to reconsider their opposition to it.

Through better tribal relations, the tribes may agree to use of the name, said university president Charles Kupchella on Monday night. But tribes in the state have already passed resolutions calling for the name change.

Kupchella was presented with an oral report on the school's nickname on Monday night.
