A new program at Arizona State University is aimed at creating more Native American teachers for reservation schools or schools with a high Native population.

Eighteen students are participating in the three-year accelerated education degree program launched this fall. It offers full tuition at ASU, a monthly stipend, and three years of intensive teaching and training. After graduation, students must teach in one of two Arizona counties.

The program is funded by a $1.2 million grant from the Indian Education Professional Development Program.
