Violence, drugs, gang activity and family problems have contributed to high drop-out rates at Española Valley High School in northern New Mexico, school officials said.

The school has the third highest rate in the state, according to statistics. School officials say students drop out, fearing violence, or leave due to family and drug problems.

The school services a number of students from San Juan Pueblo and Santa Clara Pueblo, in addition to the local community.
