MONDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2001 University of Utah researchers, in conjunction with a local artist, are reshaping and restoring 250 moccasins that date back as far as 1,000 years. The moccasins were discovered at a site known as Promontory Cave during the 1930s. They range in age from 400 to 1,000 years and so far, about 65 have been restored and quill artist Nancy Fonicello has replicated two new pairs to be displayed at the school's Utah Museum of Natural History.
