TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2001

With the help of a $17,000 grant, the Museum of Northern Arizona has completed a project to preseve a set of old tapes featuring Hopi songs, chants, music and speeches.

The tapes are several decades old and had been in the museum's possession. To preserve them, the museum hired a Boston company to transfer them to digital audiotape and CD format.

Information considered sensitive by Hopi elders has been taken out. The tapes are available to museum visitors and copies have been given to the tribe.
