Who owns Geronimo headdress?
OCTOBER 17, 2000

The ownership of an eagle feather headdress which was reported to have been worn by Geronimo is the subject of a federal court battle in Pennsylvania.

The Mescalero Apache Tribe of New Mexico and the Commanche Tribe of Oklahoma both claim ownership of the item. It was seized in an undercover sting, when a Philadelphia man tried to sell it to an FBI agent for $12 million.

If neither tribe can show ownership, it will remain in the custody of the Department of Interior for display in a museum.
