MIT linguistics professor dies

Massachusetts Institute of Technology linguistics professor Kenneth Hale died of cancer on Monday. He was 67.

Hale spoke a number of indigenous languages, including Hopi and Navajo. He taught a number of Native languages during his tenure at the school, including Nahuatl and Quiche Maya.

Hale was known for easily picking up languages and becoming fluent and conversant in them quickly. He was helping efforts to revitalize the Wampanoag language in Massachusetts.
