WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2001 Although he has mixed contemporary jazz music with traditional flute, Navajo artists R. Carlos Nakai says he never mixes "medicine bundle and the briefcase." Nakai made his pronouncement at a speech to a class at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. The class focuses on intercultural communications, and Nakai said he has studied indigenous populations to understand their communication methods. Nakai is in Lawrence all week in residence with students and will perform a concert at the Lied Center on Saturday. Get the Story:
