Ariz. declares emergency for reservation fire

WEDNESDAY, JULY 16, 2003 Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano declared a state of emergency for the the county affected by a fire on the Fort Apache Reservation. The Kinishba Fire has charred 12,600 acres on the reservation. About 5,000 residents were evacuated on Sunday. The fire is considered 10 percent contained. It is burning near the White Mountain Apache tribal headquarters of Whiteriver and near other important sacred and cultural sites. Get the Story:
