Mich. tribe still considering state tax agreement

TUESDAY, JULY 15, 2003 The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community of Michigan will hold a referendum this month on a proposed tax agreement with the state. Tribal leaders are concerned about provisions that waive sovereign immunity. The state wants the tribe to collect and remit taxes for cigarette sales. Get the Story:
