FRIDAY, JULY 11, 2003

The Diné Bidzill coalition, a collection of Navajo activist groups, will hold a conference July 19 against uranium mining.

Uranium mining doesn't currently occur on the reservation but the health and environmental effects linger. Coalition leaders say a proposal to restart mining is a real threat to Navajo people.

Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. said the tribe would not support new mining.
