Growing Taos Pueblo fire hits sacred watershed

THURSDAY, JULY 10, 2003 A fire on Taos Pueblo land in New Mexico has grown to 4,000 acres, and is reaching into a watershed important to the tribe. The Encebado Fire, which was started last week by lightning, is considered 10 percent contained. It is burning in an area that feeds the main tribal village's water supply, and is several miles away from the sacred Blue Lake. Get the Story:
